Setting up Multi-factor authentication (MFA)
In this Article we will be showing you how to set up your Multi-factor authentication (MFA), which is required to log into your Microsoft account at your school. In each stage we will talk you through the steps you need to follow to make this a painless experience for you. 1. On your mobile phone/tablet go to your app store. On an Apple device this will be the App store, and on Android the Play store. Once you are on your devices store search for the app Microsoft authenticator. 2. When you have downloaded the app to your chosen device, proceed with opening the app. Follow the instructions until you reach the screen shown below. On this screen you will need to select scan QR code. 3. After selecting the scan the QR code option you will need your laptop. In the next step you will need to open the Microsoft Edge browser. 4. In the top web address bar type in Office.com. This will take you to the web based Microsoft 365 office tools. Then you will need to select sign in. 5. Following the selection on sign in you will be prompted for an email address. This will be your work email e.g. Some.one@school.sandmat.uk, as well as the password which goes with the account. This will be the same password you used to log on to your laptop. 6. You should now get the message below prompting you to set up Microsoft Authenticator. 7. You should now seen a QR code on the screen. With your chosen device make sure the QR scanner is visible like the right hand image below. Arrange the box on the screen so that the QR code fills it, but if it doesn't scan the QR code, then at the bottom of the screen you have the option to enter the 9 digit code provided. 7. It should prompt you to test it, with a 6 digit code. This will be displayed on the screen, all you have to do is enter this into your device and click yes. 8. Once you have successfully typed in the 6 digit code, you are now set up and ready to use the Multi-factor authenticator to log in to your Microsoft 365 app's and account.

First sign on/Password reset
Whether it is the first time you sign into your account or you have forgotten your password, and IT Services has changed it, these next steps will show you how to change your password. 1. Once the laptop has booted up and you are on the login screen simply type in your full email address (e.g. Test.Teacher@milestone.sandmat.uk), and the password that has been given to you either via HR or the IT services. 2. Once Windows has loaded you will need to open Microsoft Edge web browser on you bottom task bar. Or if you prefer you can press Ctrl + Alt + delete and select change a password. 3. As soon as the browser window opens you will see your email as it asks you to pick an account to use. Select your email account. 4. Now use the password you were provided with to sign in. 5. When the next screen appears you can choose your own password to use to login form then on. 6. After this has been done remember this password as this will now get you into your accounts. 7. Once these steps have been done you may be asked to set up Multi-factor authentication. To do this look at the article Setting up multi-factor authentication (MFA) or follow the link here.
